Chapter 12
The next day, Harry woke up early and picked out a red Christmas-y looking sweater. He pulled it on and then put on a pair of jeans. He tried briefly to do something with his hair but knew it would be pointless. Harry went down to the common room and grabbed his bag. Hermione wasn't down there yet so he sat down in front of the fire that was already going for the day. He leaned his head back against the couch and yawned. He heard movement from the stairs and turned to see Hermione coming down, dragging a bag with her. Harry jumped up and ran over to Hermione, giving her a kiss and taking the bag from her. "Morning."
Hermione gave him a smile and Harry looked her up and down. She was wearing tight black pants and a fitted green sweater. Harry realized they would compliment each other quite well. He said, "So, how are we getting to your parent's house?"
Hermione said, "The Hogwarts Express, and then my parents will pick us up at the station. Most of the people are sticking around this year so we should basically have the train to ourselves, at least get a compartment to ourselves. I'm really excited!"
Harry chuckled and picked up both of their bags and headed for the portrait hole. They headed down to the entrance hall and then out into the frigid winter air. There were several carriages waiting and Harry moved towards the first one, trying not to look at the thestral standing there patiently. Harry stopped to allow Hermione to climb on and then lifted the bags into the carriage. He stepped up inside and then pulled the door shut. Harry sat down next to Hermione and slipped his arm around her, kissing her cheek. Moments later the carriage was rolling towards the station.
When the carriage came to a stop, Harry stood up quickly, grabbed the bags, and climbed off the carriage. He sat one of the bags down and smiled up at Hermione, reaching up to take her hand as she climbed down the steps to the carriage. Hermione giggled as they began to walk towards to the train. They climbed aboard with about twenty other students. Hermione walked ahead to find a compartment while Harry went to go drop off luggage.
As Harry lifted the small bags up onto a luggage rack, he sighed and turned to look out of a nearby window at the castle. It's only one day, one day you have to get through, and then you'll be back home again. Harry walked down the corridor in search of Hermione and found her in a compartment near the middle. He settled in next to her and put on a smile. "So in a few hours we'll be at Kings Cross, and then tonight there's a big dinner at your house?"
Hermione nodded and said, "Yes, and then everyone usually goes into the living room for coffee and dessert, and presents too."
Harry tried to look excited. "Sounds great!"
*A few hours later*
Harry and Hermione exited the train, Harry again carrying their bags. They exited Platform 9 3/4 and Hermione suddenly called out, "Mom! Dad!"
Hermione took off and ran over to her parents who both gave her a hug. Harry walked up a moment later, hugging Hermione's mother and shaking her father's hand. "It's nice to see you again, Mr. and Mrs. Granger."
Mr. Granger reached out to take Hermione's bag from Harry's hands and they started walking towards the waiting station wagon. Harry and Hermione climbed in the back and Hermione's parents kept up a lively conversation on the short trip to their house. Finally, the car pulled into a driveway and Harry slowly climbed out. His jaw dropped as he took in the huge house in front of him. Then he realized he shouldn't be surprised seeing as both her parents were dentists. They were very well paid after all. Hermione came up and slipped her hand into Harry's. "Do you like it?"
Harry nodded. "Yeah, it's great. It's...BIG!"
Hermione giggled. "Yeah I know." She leaned close to Harry's ear and whispered, "We have a hot tub...in the house. Maybe we can make use of it later."
Harry gave her a look of surprise as Hermione led him up to the front door and inside. Hermione's parents said to them, "Hermione, we set up Harry in the guest house. Want to show him where it is?"
Hermione nodded and motioned for Harry to follow her. They walked through the dining room and kitchen and out the back door. Harry saw a pool as they walked to a good-sized guest house and Hermione opened the door. Harry glanced around and saw a living room, kitchen, and a hallway he assumed would lead to a bathroom and bedroom.
Hermione turned to Harry with a sly smile. "We're all alone, wanna...ya know."
Harry started walking to the kitchen. "Your parents are right over in the house, Hermione. I don't think that's a good idea."
He opened the refrigerator and glanced inside. Hermione came up behind him and put her arms around him. She slid one hand underneath Harry's shirt and gently dragged her fingernails across his abs. Harry felt a shudder go through his body as Hermione reached down and unzipped his pants. "Come on, Harry."
Hermione walked over and then sat on the countertop, spreading her legs slightly. She put on an innocent look and Harry grinned at her. Hermione grinned back as Harry walked over to where she was sitting. He pushed her legs apart to stand in front of her. He gently started kissing on her neck, sliding his hand up under her shirt. Hermione ran her hands down his back and grabbed his ass, pulling him closer. Harry stripped off his shirt and Hermione quickly did the same. They started kissing again as Harry eased her bra off. He started kissing lower and she squirmed a bit. Hermione started undoing Harry's belt and soon slid his pants and boxers to the floor. Harry quickly stepped out of them and began to pull off the rest of Hermione's clothes.
Harry grabbed Hermione's waist and slid her forward so she was sitting on the edge of the countertop. He gave her a smile and she ran her hands through his hair, giving him a tonguey kiss as Harry pressed his hips into her. Harry moved to kiss her neck as he started working his hips back and forth. Hermione wrapped her legs around him and put her hand back against the cabinet to keep her balance on the edge of the counter. After about ten minutes, Hermione let out a moan and her legs tightened around Harry's waist, and he gave her a smile. Hermione looked into Harry's eyes and gave him a kiss. Harry leaned his head back and shut his eyes, groaning. His hips stopped moving and he dropped his head forward, taking in deep breaths. Hermione lifted his head and gently kissed him. She smiled and looked at him. "Harry, you're shaking."
Harry gave her a smile back and said, "Yeah, damn, that was awesome."
Hermione gave him a pleased look and slid off the counter. She started pulling on her clothes and she giggled. "I think I'm going to have a bruised ass, Harry."
Harry laughed and said, "Um, sorry?"
Hermione pulled on her shirt. "It was worth it, babe." She gave him another kiss.
Harry buckled his belt and walked over to his bag. "Let's go to my room, I wanna unpack."
Hermione nodded and followed Harry down the short hallway. Harry wandered into the room and flopped down onto the king sized bed. "Ugh, I do not want to unpack. I am ready for a nap!" He laughed.
Hermione smiled. "Well then, let's nap for twenty minutes, and then we'll get you unpacked. Sound good?"
Harry nodded and Hermione came over to lie next to him. Harry was lying on his side so she turned to face him and smiled when she saw he was already asleep. Hermione didn't feel tired so she laid there for the twenty minutes just watching Harry sleep. When time was up, she leaned over and gently kissed Harry. His eyes opened slowly and he yawned. "Mm is it time to get up already?"
Hermione nodded. "Yup, twenty minutes goes by fast."
Harry sat up. "Did you sleep?"
She shook her head. "No, I didn't feel very tired."
He gave her a smile and then grabbed his bag and unzipped it. Hermione went over to the closet. "Do you want me to get out the ironing board? I'm sure your clothes are a wrinkled mess."
Harry laughed. "There's the Muggle in you, Hermione. I put a charm on my clothes so they wouldn't wrinkle. Didn't you?"
Hermione slapped her forehead. "Duh! Yes, I did, I just forgot!"
Harry grinned as he pulled his clothes out of the bag. He shoved them into a drawer and was done within minutes. Hermione glanced at the clock. "We should head back over to the house; my family will be arriving soon."
Harry glanced at his reflection in the mirror and then nodded. "All righty, let's go."
Hermione reached for Harry's hand and led him out of the guest house and back to the main house. Mr. and Mrs. Granger greeted them with a smile. "The rest of the family should be here soon. You two can go in the dining room and sit down at your seats for dinner."
They nodded and Hermione led him to the dining room. They chose two seats in the middle of the long dining room table that seated twelve. Harry gawked at the length of the table that seated four people on each side and two people on each end. Hermione smiled up at Harry and leaned close. He slipped his arm around her shoulders and she leaned her head against him. Within twenty minutes, all the seats were occupied by Hermione's family members. Harry leaned to whisper in Hermione's ear, "Does your family know that we attend Hogwarts?"
Hermione nodded and exclaimed, "Of course they do!"
Harry replied, "Well I didn't know if it was a secret or if everyone knew!"
Soon, Mrs. Granger brought out plates of steaming food. Harry smiled and said, "The food looks delicious, Mrs. Granger."
She smiled at him and soon everyone began dishing the food out onto their plates. Hermione's relatives asked Harry about school and one of Hermione's aunts said, "So, Harry, what do your parents do for a living?"
Harry looked down at his plate and mumbled, "Um, my parents are...no longer living."
The table grew quiet and Hermione's aunt pressed on. "Oh really? How did they die?"
Harry looked up quickly, his mouth gaping as he struggled for the words to say. Hermione jumped in. "They were in an accident. How was your vacation to the United States, Aunt Cecilia?"
Hermione's aunt began to ramble on about her vacation and Harry concentrated on cutting up the food on his plate. Hermione sat her hand on Harry's leg and whispered, "I'm sorry, Harry, she never thinks before she talks."
Harry pushed her hand off his leg and Hermione gave him a shocked look. Harry finished his food and quickly stood up to drop his dishes off in the sink. He glanced back into the dining room and quietly slipped out the back door. He wandered back over to the guest house and went inside. He headed into the small living room and plopped down on the couch. Harry slouched down and lazily crossed his arms over his stomach. He heard the door open a few minutes later and leaned his head back against the couch, sighing. Hermione entered the room a minute later and sat down next to Harry. "Harry, what's wrong?"
Harry shook his head. "It's nothing, Hermione."
Hermione was silent for a moment. "Well, they're getting ready to open presents inside, are you going to come in?"
Harry heaved another sigh and stood up. "Yeah, come on."
He quickly started walking out of the guest house and Hermione hurried after him. She reached for Harry's hand but he pulled it away. Hermione sighed and solemnly walked after him. Harry opened the door for Hermione and she walked through, not looking at Harry. He slammed the door harder than necessary and Hermione jumped at the noise. She shook her head and walked towards the living room. Hermione stopped before the entrance to the living room and turned to Harry. "Are you going to help me hand out presents?"
Harry nodded and Hermione gave him a smile. She leaned in and gently kissed him, but he didn't kiss her back. Hermione quickly stepped back and gave Harry a hurt look before turning to walk into the living room. Harry followed her and she quickly knelt down in front of the large Christmas tree. Harry followed suit and they quickly handed out a gift to each person in the room. Harry was surprised when Hermione handed a gift to him. "It's from my parents; it's probably an electric toothbrush or something."
Harry looked at her to see if she was joking and she said, "I'm serious. Dentists can't think of anything besides teeth."
Harry shook his head and unwrapped the present. Sure enough, a toothbrush was lying there in the tissue paper. Harry chuckled and then looked over at Hermione's parents. "Thanks for the gift, Mr. and Mrs. Granger."
They beamed at him and Harry looked over as Hermione unwrapped her gift. She pulled out a silver chain bracelet and exclaimed, "Oh, it's beautiful!"
Hermione turned to Harry. "Will you put it on me?"
Harry nodded and clasped the bracelet around her wrist. Hermione inspected the bracelet, smiling. "It's just gorgeous."
Once everyone had opened their presents, Hermione's family talked and sipped coffee. Harry and Hermione mostly just listened and finally around midnight, her family headed for home. Hermione's parents turned to them and Mr. Granger said, "We'll clean up tomorrow, you two should go to bed and get some rest."
They nodded and her parents headed upstairs and moments later, they heard the bedroom door close. Hermione looked at Harry. "Will you come sit in the living room with me?"
Harry nodded and they wandered back into the living room. All the lights had been turned out except for the lights on the Christmas tree, which filled the room with a glow. Hermione sat down on the couch and Harry sat down next to her. Hermione grabbed Harry's hand and he tried to pull away but Hermione tightened her grip and wouldn't let go. "Harry, you need to tell me what's wrong. All you've done today is try to alienate me. What is the problem? We can work through it."
Harry looked away, his jaw set, shaking his head slightly. Hermione reached up and turned his face to hers. She gave him a long stare. "Harry, talk to me."
He wouldn't meet her eyes and said softly, "Hermione, it has nothing to do with you, it's a personal matter, and I'll be better in a couple days, okay?"
Hermione stood up quickly. "Fine then, Harry, good night."
Without waiting for a response, she hurried from the room and upstairs. Harry walked outside and looked up as snow started falling from the sky. He moved slowly towards the guest house and opened the door. Once he was in his room, he quickly changed into his pajamas and slid into bed. He pulled his glasses off and then fell into a troubled sleep.
