CHAPTER EIGHT

The wedding of James and Lily was a very private affair. The guests included, and were almost limited, to James and Lily's families, Sirius, Peter, Remus and Lessah. Although Remus knew James' family quite well, he couldn't recall ever having met Lily's family, though he knew that they were Muggles. Lily's father was a tall, proud looking man with a long mustache. Her mother was not so tall, but slender and very graceful in the way she moved. Remus thought that she and Lily looked very much alike. Lily's sister was another matter. She was thin and blonde, and lacked any of Lily's beauty. She also looked as if she would have had a better time if she were not at the wedding; her face would have made Severus Snape look cheerful.

After the actual ceremony, there was a quiet dinner under the clear sky. Music drifted around the area, coming from some piece of Muggle technology provided by Lily's parents. James and Lily danced together to the music, so obviously in love with each other. They looked wonderful in their wedding clothes. James was wearing wedding style robes, black and white with his family crest on the back and gold buttons down the front. Lily was dressed altogether differently from James. She wore a white, Muggle-style wedding gown that went all the way to the floor. The auburn hair was garnished with small white flowers.

"Nasty, ugly thing isn't she?" Sirius hissed, pointing at Lily's sister. "Heard her saying that she hates being surrounded by freaks. It must be hard to be a self hating freak."

"She looks like she could use a cheering charm," Remus said, fingering his wand.

"James said no magic," Sirius stated.

"And you, Sirius Black, are going to listen to what someone else says?" Remus asked, shocked.

"Don't tempt me, Remus. Even as we speak I'm recalling the proper words. It would be so easy to just point as cast..."

"Point and cast what?" James asked from behind Remus and Sirius.

"Nothing. You said no magic, and we're going to stick to that," Sirius said quickly.

"I'm sure you are," James said suspiciously. "You can use magic, just not directed at anyone."

James walked away and returned to dance with Lily. Sirius sighed and had another glass of wine. Remus went to go find Lessah. He found her explaining the finer points of properly breeding eagles and phoenixes, an act that was illegal almost everywhere, to Lily's sister. Lily's sister looked very distressed by Lessah's mere presence. Lily's parents were also listening to Lessah's explanation, seemingly fascinated by it. Lessah smiled mischievously and stopped when Remus came up beside her.

"It's getting late Lessah," Remus said. He looked at Lily's parents. "You must be Mr. and Mrs. Evans. You're Muggles - er, non-magical folk aren't you?" Remus asked.

"Yes we are," Lily's mother answered. "And we are very proud of Lily. She's done very well with her life."

"Well, James is a really nice guy, and a really talented wizard." Remus said. "I don't think he'll disappoint you."

The Evans' nodded in agreement.

"Well, pleasure to meet you. If you'll excuse me though, I have to be leaving now."

Remus bowed slightly and walked away. Remus and Lessah said good-bye to James and Lily, wishing them a happy honeymoon and then left. The wedding had been held in a small clearing in a forest. Remus and Lessah walked through the trees, unafraid of anything that might be there. They walked through the forest for a little about an hour before Apparating to Remus' house. They sat on the roof and watched the stars.

"You'll be going back to America tomorrow, won't you?" Remus asked.

"All my things are in America," Lessah said. "I should go back."

"What if all your things was here?"

"Then all my things would be here and I'd have to keep going back and forth and it would be really inconvenient..."

"What if we lived together and you understood what I was trying to ask you?" Remus said, slightly frustrated.

Lessah gave Remus a confused look. Remus sat up and sighed. He reached into his robes and produced a small ring. He placed it in Lessah's hand. He felt slightly ashamed of the ring. It was made of blue plastic, with a blue and yellow plastic flower on it. It had been in Remus' possession for a long time, he had picked it up from the ground when he was young. He muttered some excuse for it under his breath.

"We're living in a very uncertain world," Remus said. "The only things that are certain in this life are that the full moon will come and that I want to be with you for eternity. Will you marry me, Lessah Ismorah?"

I will not be with any other wolf, Lessah thought to him.

Lessah put her arms around Remus and kissed him on the lips. Remus Apparated Lessah and himself to his room in the attic, where one thing continued to lead to another.
