CHAPTER SEVEN
Lessah ended up staying at Remus' house for more than just a few days. She left again after a letter arrived from her mother, threatening to disown her if she didn't return to America. Remus wondered if he and Lessah would ever be together, or if they were doomed to be apart. Lessah was gone longer than she had been before, although she promised to return quickly. Remus took comfort in the fact that his letters were reaching her this time, though her replies suggested that things in America were not going well. Lessah's mother seemed to be under the impression that Remus was some sort of monster. The way things were explained in Lessah's lettered suggested that until the end of seventh year, Lessah's mother didn't know that Remus was the werewolf that bit Lessah. Remus figured that Lessah's less that law-abiding brother had something to do with that. Remus did his best to make light of the situation in his letters, making a few jokes about their shared curse when he could think of any.
Remus was sitting by the fire in the sitting room, watching the snow fall outside the window, when there was a knock on the door. Remus got up from the armchair, wrapped his blanket around him and slowly went to answer the door. It was very late at night, Remus guessed that it was past midnight and the gently falling snow had, an hour ago, become a storm.
Better not be a Death Eater, that's all I can say, Remus thought.
Don't be silly, Death Eaters don't knock. They just blow things up. So I hear, came a second voice in Remus' mind.
Remus bolted down the hall and crashed into the door. After a brief moment of recovery, Remus threw the door open, somehow damaging the wall at the same time. Lessah was standing on the door mat, with a covered cage and a luggage trunk on the floor beside her. Remus picked Lessah up and carried her inside; something about that felt right to him. The cage and the trunk followed them in on their own.
"Tell me everything. How's America? How's your brother?" Remus asked, sitting on the sofa, still holding on to Lessah. "Did you're mother finally see that I'm not a monster?"
"America is nice. Saber is nice," Lessah answered. "No my mother hasn't finally seen that you're not a monster."
"You didn't run away did you?"
"No, nothing like that," Lessah said, running her fingers through Remus' hair. "Saber and my mother had a huge argument and Saber told her to let me come see you or bad things would happen. It was very un-Saber of him; he agreed to never set foot in her house again, for as long as she lives. It was a big sacrifice really."
"And why would he agree to do that?" Remus asked.
"My mother says he's a huge disappointment and he brings nothing but shame on the family with the way he chooses to live his life," Lessah said.
"Your mother definitely sounds like she was a Snape at one time," Remus laughed.
"Yes, she does. But Saber doesn't care if he shames her or not. There are only three things he believes in. Free love, peace, and ticking off the government."
"That's wonderful," Remus said sarcastically.
Remus and Lessah fell asleep on the sofa that night. Remus woke up to find his mother staring at them from across the room. Lessah sighed in her sleep and cuddled up closer to Remus.
"Good morning mother," Remus said. "Look who arrived during the night, Lessah. We didn't do anything."
"Remus, I know you didn't do anything," Remus' mother said, smiling. "And even if you did, you're both adults now and you're going to do things anyway. I can't stop you."
"Oh, that's... unexpected," Remus said, a little surprised. "Well then, I think I'll just stay on the sofa all day."
"Do whatever, for now. You still have responsibilities though," Remus' mother said. "And this arrived for you by owl."
Remus' mother handed him a small white envelope and then left the room. Remus looked over the envelope, just to make sure it wasn't one of Sirius' trapped letters. The envelope was small, square and white. It was sealed with wax. There was a large JP stamped into the wax. That safely ruled out Sirius. Remus broke the wax seal and opened the envelope. Inside was a card, with a picture of a garden on the front. Remus opened the card.

PS: Remus, if you're not there I will personally put wolfsbane in your breakfast as soon as I get back from my honeymoon!
Remus laughed a little at the last line of the card.
"Well, I suppose that I had better go then. I wouldn't want wolfsbane in my breakfast," Remus muttered, being sarcastic as we got up to reply to the invitation.
