CHAPTER SIX

Being separated from Lessah was harder than Remus thought it would be. Her constant presence was gone and Remus couldn't hear her thoughts anymore. Remus had also received no letters from Lessah, and the ones that he had sent her had been returned, unread. It didn't make much sense to Remus, but Sirius had an explanation for it.

She hates you.

She doesn't hate me Sirius.

No letters, no visits on the full moon and not so much as a dirty thought directed at you, Sirius said scratching behind his ear. Face it Moony, she hates you.

Sirius, stop picking on Remus! James scolded, scrapping his antlers against a tree. I'm sure she has a reason...

Sure, she hates him.

Stop saying that! Remus growled, baring his teeth at Sirius.

Well, what's your explanation?

I don't have one... yet.

That night was particularly hard on Remus. It had been three months since he had last heard from Lessah, and he was beginning to believe that Sirius might be right. After his friends apparated away from the forest, Remus dragged himself to the house and promptly collapsed on the sofa, completely ignoring his mother telling him to go up to his room and sleep. Sometime in the afternoon somebody arrived at the house by Floo powder. Remus ignored the sounds of fire and continued his nap. There was a long silence and then something pressed itself against Remus' body. Remus' eyes snapped open.

"Lessah!" Remus exclaimed, trying not to let Lessah fall off the sofa as he sat up.

"Good morning," Lessah said quietly, she looked very tired.

Remus looked at Lessah as she snuggled up to him. Her black and white hair looked messy and the braid she usually wore so tight was coming undone in a few places. There were dark circles under her amber eyes and a smudge of dirt across her face. Remus leaned back with a sigh and put his arms around her.

"Where have you been?" Remus asked, wiping the dirt off Lessah's face with his thumb.

"My mother decided that she doesn't want me to see you anymore," Lessah said quietly. "I haven't been able to get out of the house until now. I've moved in with Saber; he ordered me to come here."

"And that's a bad thing?"

"No, but it was very un-Saber of him to do," Lessah answered through a yawn.

Lessah sighed and closed her eyes. Remus looked at the clock on the wall. It was three-thirty in the afternoon, which meant that were Lessah had come from it wasn't even eight o'clock in the morning. Remus smiled to himself, knowing that Lessah had probably just fallen asleep. A few minutes later, Remus' mother came into the sitting room. She looked a little surprised to see Lessah.

"When did Lessah get here?" Remus' mother asked.

"Just a few minutes ago," Remus said quietly. "She's really tired. Can she stay for dinner? Can she stay forever?"

"She can stay for a few days, in the guest room."

"Of course she'll stay in the guest room. What makes you think that I want here in my room?"

Remus' mother gave him a stern look and then went back into the kitchen. Remus got up from the sofa, letting Lessah get some much needed sleep, and went to prepare the guest room. He awoke Lessah a few hours later, before dinner was ready. This gave her time to shower while Remus contacted her brother over the fire place and asked him to send Lessah some extra clothes.
