CHAPTER TWO
The year passed quickly for Remus. He and Lessah spent the full moons in the Shrieking Shack, usually in the company of Sirius, James and Peter. Occasionally the group snuck out and had an adventure in the forest. On a rainy night in March, while Lessah and Remus were comparing notes from History of Magic class, Sirius came into the common room, clearly excited about something. He looked like a little child who had just found several galleons lying in the street.
"Something on your mind Sirius?" Remus asked, looking up from his notes.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you," Sirius said excitedly.
"Then why don't you save yourself the trouble and tell someone who will?"
"Ah, well, it's about Lessah. But you probably know everything about her already."
Remus and Lessah both looked up at Sirius. He was dancing on the spot, looking as if he was trying to move in all directions at once. James and Lily came into the common room, both giving Sirius strange looks. After a moment or two, when James and Lily finally questioned Sirius, he began talking again.
"Lessah, I heard this rumor about you and I really need to know if it's true. I mean, some one is saying sick things about you, just disgusting. We should find them and hex them or something. It's nasty," Sirius said. "Is it true?"
"What are they saying Sirius?" Lessah said, Remus could sense her annoyance.
"Well, I heard some people talking on my way to the tower," Sirius continued. "Now, I usually don't get involved with rumors, but this one is really good..."
"Out with it!" Lessah and Remus barked.
"Right! They're saying..." Sirius didn't finish because he had started to snigger. After a moment he composed himself again. "They're saying that you're Severus Snape's cousin. Isn't that disgusting?"
"Oh that..."
"Come on Sirius! Lessah is not Snape's cousin!" Remus protested.
"I am," Lessah said, plainly.
"You what?" Remus, James, Lily, and Peter said together.
"Severus' cousin. I am. His father is my mother's brother."
"Lessah is a Snape!" Sirius exclaimed, then laughed maniacally. "Remus, your girlfriend is Severus Snape's cousin! This is sensational!"
Remus glared at Sirius, who was clearly enjoying the revelation. Sirius told every person who entered the common room, that Lessah was Snape's cousin. After a few minutes he gathered his things and went up to the dormitory. Lessah followed him a few minutes later. Remus was sitting on the side of his bed, Lessah sat beside him and sighed.
"You'll forgive me when I say that I just can't look at you right now," Remus said coldly.
"Just because I'm Severus Snape cousin? Remus, you should know me better by now," Lessah said, putting her arms around him.
Remus moved away from Lessah. Finding out that Lessah was the cousin of his worst enemy was just a little too much for him. Right now there was a very nasty image running through his head. The image was of Lessah's body - with her sleeveless robes and bikini top - with Severus Snape's face where Lessah's face should have been. Snape could make anything look unappealing, even Lessah.
"Remus, I am nothing like Severus," Lessah said, leaning over to Remus and kissing him on the side of the mouth.
"Well... you're Snape's cousin!"
"Remus, I'm not Severus Snape," Lessah said, kissing Remus on the lips.
"No but..." Remus said, returning Lessah's kiss.
The nasty thought retreated to the darkest recesses of Remus' mind. Remus fiddled with the buttons on Lessah's blouse and slid it down her shoulders. Her pale skin was like silk.
"Hey... Oh! Hey! Don't mind me!" Sirius said loudly.
Remus' head almost snapped off as he looked toward Sirius. Sirius was leaning against one of the posts of his four poster bed, which was closest to the door. Lessah pulled her shirt back on very quickly.
"Really, don't mind me," Sirius said. "I was just coming in to get... something. Actually I really can't remember what it was..."
Lessah cleared her throat as she finished buttoning her shirt. Sirius was hunting through the trunk at the end of his bed.
"Ah, that's it! I was looking for my camera," he said, pointing the camera at Remus and Lessah. "Go ahead, just go back to doing whatever it was you were doing."
Remus muttered something derogatory at Sirius as Lessah left the room. Sirius shrugged and put his camera back in the trunk. A few minutes later he headed back downstairs, empty handed. Remus shook his head as Lessah headed out of the dormitory. Saying that Remus was annoyed with Sirius was a great understatement. Remus was considering what hex to use on Sirius when he got a reminder that he wasn't alone with his thoughts.
Remus, those aren't nice things to think about.
"I don't care if it's not nice to think about," Remus said out loud. "I'll think about whatever I want."
You need to talk to Sirius about what's bugging you. He won't get it if you don't.
He won't listen anyway. James had to hex him before he would listen, I'll have to do the same.
Why do men find it so hard to talk things out instead of hexing each other all the time.
Because we don't understand talking. We understand hexing.
Just try it, Lessah replied, sounding annoyed with Remus.
Remus growled and put his face in his pillow. Sharing thoughts with Lessah was becoming frustrating for Remus. Since the end of February, the thought sharing had become more frequent than usual. Remus was sure that this was one of the effects of biting Lessah, but he had never bitten a person before. Remus lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling. A little over an hour later, Sirius came into the dormitory. Sirius briefly flipped through a book on the night table and then tossed the book on the floor. Remus got off his bed and made for the door.
"Hey, come down to the kitchen with me," Remus said.
"I had lots to eat at dinner, I'm good," Sirius answered.
"I know, but I don't want to go down to the kitchen alone, it's no fun."
"You could take Lessah with you and snack on her on the way."
"Actually, I need to talk to you about Lessah. Come one, I really don't want to hex you."
Sirius gave Remus a puzzled look and followed him out of the dormitory. For a while, Remus wouldn't say anything, he wasn't sure what to say to Sirius.
"Right, I need to talk to you about Lessah," Remus said finally.
"Yes, you said that already that. What do you need to talk about?"
Remus put his hand on his chin and thought. "I really need you to stop asking me about... It's annoying, you know?"
"You need me to stop asking you about you and Lessah and your... nocturnal activities?"
"Yeah... Look, I don't want to hex you. I know that's what James did, but I was hoping that I wouldn't have to."
"Hexing me didn't get me to stop. I just stopped asking him so frequently."
Remus rolled his eyes and walked down the passage to the kitchens. Sirius was humming some tasteless tune as they entered the kitchen and were greeted by the eager House Elves. Remus snacked on the many things that the House Elves offered him. Sirius just picked at a few things. Soon they were both having a good a time as any. By the time they got back to the dormitory, Sirius had agreed to stop asking Remus about his love life, but Remus had to tell him when "good things" happened. Remus didn't actually agree to it, but said that he would in order to get Sirius to leave him alone. With any luck, the rest of the year would be quieter.
