"C'mon hold my hand. I want to contact the living. Not sure I understand the role I've been given."

Ginny Weasley stood in the Hogwarts library. Five years ago she had been a student here. Now she was the librarian. Madame Pince, the former librarian, had run off with some wizard she had met in the personals section of the Daily Prophet. Ginny had taken the job. Most people would have expected her friend, Hermione Granger, to be the first choice to be the librarian. To be honest, Ginny had thought Hermione would be the best choice as well. However, Dumbledore seemed to think the opposite. After graduating from Hogwarts, Ginny had gone to Toadstool University.

Toadstool University was a university for witches and wizards. This school provided extra schooling for those who had chosen to enter more demanding professions. Ginny had applied for a scholarship and actually got it. Ginny had no clue as to what field of work she wanted to study for. Then she remembered all the time she had spent in the library studying and reading. She had never called it a second home, as Hermione had, but she had gotten to love spending time there. Madame Pince had created a place she felt comfortable and happy. By seventh year, Ginny had dropped her divination studies and spent that time volunteering in the library. Madame Pince trusted her to shelf books and check them out to students. Ginny had convinced Madame Pince to create a large bulletin board where students could place book recommendations for others to read. Ginny had decided to study to become a librarian at Toadstool University.

Now, as she stood in the Hogwarts library, Ginny could hardly believe her luck. She had been fully prepared to work at some village library. The offer from Dumbledore had changed her plans. Ginny straightened her cloak and skirt and walked determinedly to the checkout desk. Before leaving, Madame Pince had made sure Ginny knew all her procedures and rules. This was, of course, a review of what she already knew, but Ginny good-naturedly listened and took notes. Now Ginny would be librarian. She wondered what title Dumbledore would give her. Would she be called Mademoiselle Weasley? Madame Weasley? Miss Weasley? Miss Ginny? Ginny? The possibilities were endless. Perhaps because of her degree she would be called Professor Weasley. Hmmm, she liked the sound of that. Being called Professor Weasley or Mademoiselle Weasley sounded so much more exotic than just plain old Ginny Weasley. Ginny laughed at her foolishness and wondered what the Hogwarts students would think of her. Would they find her as formidable as many students had found Madame Pince? Ginny hoped not. She wanted them to like her and feel comfortable to ask her for help.

Looking at her watch, Ginny realized that the sorting ceremony would be over soon. She gathered up her skirts and ran out of the library. Halfway to the door, Ginny realized she had left the library keys on the checkout desk. She ran back to the desk, grabbed her keys and ran to the door again. Ginny carefully locked the door and hurried to the Great Hall.
