'Love is in the air! Everywhere I look around!' Yes, I feel like singing. Too bad this isn't the singing type of occasion. There's love everywhere, sure! Except for the two that I need to make fall in love! Whenever I walk around them, together, I feel angered. I never get angry, it's only their aura, when combined to make an explosive angry bomb just waiting to set off, it'll make anyone angry, I guess. And the fates actually expect me to make these two fall in love?
I have rules too, Sadie!
One: In order for me to make someone fall in love with someone else, they need to be willing to fall in love with the someone else.
Two: I don't like carrying around a white and pink wand.
Not too much to ask, is it?
I had my first classes today. Lucky me, Potions, Herbology, and Arithmancy was with the 'Slytherins'. I guess Draco Malfoy is a Slytherin. He doesn't seem to like me very much. I don't see why...I'm the most loveable guy in the universe (apart from Eros, but we're supposed to be the same guy, I guess)!
Yes, I have met the two students today, along with many others, namely the ladies. If Eros could see me now...too bad Miss Hermione Granger thinks it's sickening, and Mr. Draco Malfoy just finds my near presence intoxicating. Now I feel better, knowing that the two won't come near me. Hermione wasn't as hard to come around as Draco. I came close just before lunch, I really did!
I found the two, obviously, arguing about something or other. I think I caught Hermione yelling something about ferrets, and then Draco yell something about mudbloods. What are mudbloods, and why are they fighting over ferrets? Honestly, I find the little rodents quite adorable. They stink, literally, but they're still cute.
Well, if I remember correctly, the fight went something like this:
"Malfoy, you insufferable ferret!" Hermione shouted, her face red. I think this was between lunch and my Potions class. I guess Draco had just either said something and made her drop her stuff, or he hexed (new word!) her and made drop her stuff...well, whatever the reason, her stuff was on the ground (lots of books and quills and ink) and her face was a crimson red.
"Look, Mudblood is getting angry!" Draco teased, causing Hermione's red haired friend to also become red in the face, hold up his fist, and step forward. However, her other friend, the black haired kid, held him back.
I know that kid; he's quite the topic of conversation. Although, I have forgotten his name. Us Gods all think it's funny how people worship him for defeating another wizard (who was also worshiped by some) when he was only one year old. Surprising, if you ask me. But, thankfully, no one was asking me.
I stood, watching the commotion from the side. It was like watching a fight from a movie or something; it was entertaining.
Hermione took out her own wand. She muttered something that I knew had to be some sort of Latin, I think. I don't know; I've heard Merlin mutter words like that all the time. Well, Draco ended up on the opposite wall, Hermione walking up to him. He got up, and pointed his wand at her, but stopped.
Now, someone would blame me for stopping him, and they would be right. I smirked, as people got suspicious. They had every right to be. These two were at each other's throats when I came along, supposedly.
Confused, Draco put up his wand again, but his wand flew from his hand and landed at my feet. Bad move, I know, but I couldn't help myself.
I bent down, and picked up his wand. I examined it. Redwood, much better than mine; lucky bastard!
I looked up as I heard Draco storm over to me. He stopped not two feet in front of me.
"Listen, pretty boy," he said. I raised an eyebrow. I don't think I've ever been called pretty boy; well, at least not to my face. "I'll give you to the count of three to give me my wand." He held out his hand to me.
I could see Hermione look at me, disgusted. Oh yeah! Well, if she thought I was disgusting, there would be no way she would ever consider Draco handsome. I then looked at her friends. They were looking at me, confused. I remember talking about that boy, but I can't remember his name! Why couldn't I remember his name?
"One..." Draco said, an irritated look plastered on his face. "Two...Three..."
"Why do you want your wand back, anyways?" I asked. Well, that wasn't supposed to happen. I was just going to shoot them with a love spell that I learned, and be done with it, not talk to them. Oh well, I got myself into it, so, why not finish it? "So you can hex her?"
"I need my wand back so I can go to lunch."
I smirked at him, crossing my arms over my chest. "You need a wand to eat?"
"No, I just need my wand. Now, give it to me!"
I rolled my eyes. I could already tell this kid was a spoilt brat. "Fine, take it. Just because you asked nicely." I held out his wand to him. He grabbed it, and stormed into the Great Hall.
I shook my head at him. I turned to go to my 'Common Room', as they all called it, when I nearly ran smack into that boy-whose-name-I-can't-remember, and his friend. Hermione stayed a ways back.
"Hey," the boy-whose-name-I-can't-remember said. "How'd you do that?"
"Do what?" Seriously. What did I do? I didn't show them my lovey dovey powers did I?
"How did you take his wand without using your own?" the red haired boy asked.
I shrugged. What was I to say? 'Oh, I just thought that, well, since I need those two to fall in love, I didn't want him turning his future wife into a pancake, did I?' Instead, I said, "I did too use my wand! It just wasn't showing."
"Wow, you hid it really well," the red haired boy said. "Are you a sixth year? I don't think we know each other. I'm Ron Weasley." He held out his hand to me.
I shook it, and nodded at him.
"Harry Potter," the boy-whose-name-I-can't-remember-but-now-I-do-because-he-just-told-me said. Wow, I hope I don't have to call him that ever again.
"Eros Valentine," I said casually, shaking Harry's hand. "I'm a Ravenclaw seventh year." I don't think I needed to tell them that, but, oh well, right?
"Gryffindor," Harry said. "You're a seventh year? Are you an exchange student?"
'Yeah, from Olympus.' Hey, if I'm supposed to be Eros, why not think like him, right? "I'm from Greece." I smiled as Hermione walked up to us, her face in awe.
"G-Greece?" she repeated in a high-pitched tone.
I nodded. "I was born in Rome, but I've lived at the base of Olympus my whole life. Until it was rumored that I was supposed to be here because it my destiny or something." Only the partial truth. This is not my destiny! And, I don't live at the base of Olympus. Okay, so the whole thing was a lie, except for the fact that I was born in Rome.
"Olympus is real?" Harry asked.
"Yeah. Although, I don't see why people are surprised, it's just another mountain that's really, really tall."
"But, Greece?" Hermione asked again, this time a little breathless. Okay, she may find me disgusting in looks, but she sure seemed interested in Eros's past.
"Yeah, Greece. Should I tell you why I'm here again?" I asked her. Okay, maybe I was being a little bit mean, but that's how I am around dumb mortals who don't know how to fall in love on their own, so they need my help.
"Wow, what was it like?"
I felt a little uncomfortable talking about something that wasn't true in the middle of the 'Entrance Hall', where anyone could hear.
"Uhm, maybe we can talk some other time? I need to get to my Common Room." I quickly pushed past them, and headed up the stairs.
I was just far enough to hear one of the boys mutter to the other boy, "Looks like Hermione has a crush."
I'm Cupid, I have wicked awesome hearing! Except at that moment, it wasn't cool. Hermione had a crush on me? No, I would know it! She's probably just admiring me for my past in Greece. She seemed interested enough.
Wait...
Awe! I got that tingly sensation in my stomach when I know someone has a crush on me. I would know how it felt. Did anyone stop to realize how many witches there are in this school?
~~
After I grabbed my Arithmancy book, I followed Padma Patil to where the Arithmancy classroom was. I was surprised to see her going to that class...she was one of those girls who didn't give a hoot about school, but put all her attentions to boys and make-up.
Well, she was a good conservationist. I was actually surprised she didn't corner me and try to kiss me. What is it with these girls doing that to me? Maybe I should change and look like...I don't know, Pluto, or something? Then, the girls would leave me alone, and I would be able to go about with my business.
"I hear you're from Greece," she said to me. Wow, news sure does travel fast around this place. "It must've been wonderful."
"Nothing special." That was true. "I've lived there almost my entire life, so I'm used to it."
"You know, some girls are saying that you must be the male version of Venus or Aphrodite or something."
"No. Just the mortal version of Eros or Cupid. Don't you think it's funny how my name is Eros, and I act just like him?"
"You can make people fall in love?" I got scared then. What did she mean exactly? She looked downcast as we walked. "There's this boy in Hufflepuff that I really had my eyes on for a while now. I think I might be in love with him, I don't know."
Oh, great. Here comes the 'you're not in love, its called an infatuation' talk.
"I've known him since we first started coming to this school," she said. Why was she telling me this?
"Why are you telling me?" I asked. I really wanted to know.
"Well, you claimed to be just like Eros or Cupid. I was just hoping that you could help me."
I sighed. Should I? No! I'm here for Hermione and Draco only! Well, it won't hurt to help one person? "What do you want?"
"You mean, you really do know how to make him fall in love with me? As I him?"
"It all depends." Rules, goody. "How long have you been friends?"
"Since we first met at breakfast the first day of school. We've been practically best friends ever since."
Wow, this would be an easy one. "So, I take it you know a lot about him, right?"
"Uh-huh."
"Okay." We stopped in front of a door, that I suspected to be the Arithmancy classroom. "Have him meet us at the library after dinner. You have to show me where the library is. You do have a library here, right?"
"We wouldn't be a school without one."
I nodded. One couple happy, so what? It's not like it's the whole school, right?
~~
Arithmancy was hard! Problems, problems, and more problems! Thankfully, I was sitting next to Hermione. She helped me a lot (very smart witch! I can't understand why Draco Malfoy has it in for her!), for the price that I tell her about Greece, which, I knew almost nothing about, so I told her about Rome instead.
"I would like to go to Greece someday," she said to me, a far away look to her eyes.
"Well, I can't wait to leave it. All that talk about destiny gets old after a while." Which also wasn't true. I don't know why I was compelled to lie to this girl! Maybe it was because I want her to like me, so I can tell her that she's soon going to fall in love the one guy she truly hates.
It was some sort of curse or something, but I'm not allowed to make anyone fall in love PERMINANTLY until the fourteenth of any month. It's sad, but that's the way it is, and always has been. Weird. If I made someone fall in love not on the fourteenth, it would only be temporary.
Well, Padma, Hermione, and I were walking down a deserted corridor, which was a good thing. I was getting tired of lying to that girl, and I wanted to get this done and over with.
I stopped in the middle of the corridor, and Hermione turned to me, a puzzled look to her face. I raised my wand at her. She gasped, and froze. I put my wand down, but she didn't move. I raised it up, she didn't move. I took a step forward, she didn't move. Padma was frozen, too. What the --
There was laughter behind me, and I became irritated.
"Eros," I growled. Why did he have to bug me now? "What do you want?" I turned to him.
He was floating upside down, laughing. "You should have seen yourself!"
"Get on with it!"
He calmed down, and turned right side up. He looked at me seriously. "What are you doing?"
"I was going to make Hermione fall in love with Draco."
"Why?"
"Because I don't like it here. I get the shivers everywhere I go."
"Don't you think the fates put you here for a reason?"
"That's what I was thinking, but, the quicker I get this done, the quicker I can go home and see Psyche. I miss her."
"The fates sent you here to make these two fall in love for a long time. Not temporarily."
"Why?"
"Because...well, I don't know." He landed on the ground, and walked up to Hermione. "I think it's because they wanted to make sure their plan worked?" He turned to me.
"What plan? Why wasn't I informed there was a plan?"
Eros looked down at my hand. "Nice wand," he said, hiding a chuckle. I knew some magic tricks, why not hex him? "Anyways, the supposedly plan is that you make the two fall in love on Valentines Day-"
"No! That's so long from here! Do you not realize that this would be the one hundredth Valentines Day that I had to miss with Psyche?"
"It's all for a reason. Lowe says that if they are together on Valentines Day, then their love will be final, and that's what they need. If you ever get a chance to talk to any of those two seriously, then tell them this: 'They have to fall in love, or Harry Potter will not succeed.'"
"Well, I think I need to just tell Hermione that if she doesn't fall in love with Draco, then her friend will die, then she'll fall in love with Draco."
"But what about Draco?"
"I'll beat him to a bloody heart beat pulp."
"You always look for the easy way out. Well, I hear that if they don't fall in love, the world will be in chaos. Do you want that to happen? We'll be working double time if there's a war going on. It'll be another Romeo and Juliet."
I shuddered. "Don't remind me."
"Well, remember what I told you that the fates said."
"Wait, how come they told you, and not me?"
"I don't know. See ya!"
I shook my head, as I heard Hermione and Padma come around. I hated him. The noble lover boy he was. He loved watching people fall in love. I wonder if he ever felt how being in love feels. Probably not.
"Eros? Are you okay?" the Padma asked behind me. Damnit. Why me?
I turned to her, and nodded. "Now, we were talking about, what was it, Hogsmeade?"
"Oh, yes! That's right!" Hermione exclaimed. We began walking again as she told me about the wonderful shops that occupied Hogsmeade.
Well, at least I got to be Hermione's friend for a while, right?
Author notes: so, now is the time for reviewing!
