Chapter Two

Disrupting Time

Meeting the Enemy

~*~~*~~*~

Dimitri stood behind the library case of his father's old home. He had landed there seconds before his father had come in. He looked a lot younger, about his mid twenties and he noted the resemblance between them now. He watched him pacing up and down, so that's where I got it from, he thought. His eyes wandered to the large green lounger. He knew that lounger. That was his lounger. He smiled as he remembered it, he had claimed it when he was ten. It was worn down now but it held so many memories of watching his father when he was in his office and falling asleep on it. Looking across, he could see all the bits of parchment that his father was writing on and the sketches spread across the table. He had been rambling and speaking softly saying things like, 'Of course,' and 'So that's what it is.' Dimitri had ignored him until he uttered the name of the woman he was there to take back with him.

"Maleyna, Goddess of Earth and Nature?" He read on in silence trying to find out more about her, noting things every so often and referring to different pages at intervals. He did this for a while and Dimitri had taken to exploring the rest of the library in the study. It was huge even though it didn't even look like it was there.

The chair to the desk moved back and Draco stood up to leave the room. Dimitri walked back to the first bookshelf and watched behind the books as he left the room. As he left, Dimitri made his way to the desk to look at what his father had been working on. Paper scattered all over the place, much like the study at home. He smiled at this characteristic he had when he was younger. Draco had always said it only reared its ugly head under great pressure. He looked at the picture of Maleyna and studied her face. He hated her more than ever now that he was in the time when she existed.

Footsteps came back up the stairs. He quickly ran behind the bookshelf again as his father walked back upstairs to close the door. His heart slowed down when the door shut. He sighed heavily as the footsteps ceased again.

His head shot up at a noise in the room. A woman with dark hair had appeared out of nowhere. He noted her attire and her appearance. He compared her to the book on the table and knew exactly who she was.

The hate began to build even more.

She sighed heavily and dropped into the green lounger, his lounger. He almost growled.

"For Merlin's sake, don't you work?" she said to the door for the third time. Dimitri looked up from the book he was reading on the ground and rolled his eyes. She had spent the first hour in silence. He had welcomed it; he didn't want to acknowledge her presence at all. The second was spent cursing the maids for not wanting to clean whenever it was needed. He guessed she was talking about Altair mostly. He liked her, she was great. Sebastian took after her in many ways. He frowned as he remembered how he had left Sebastian. He hoped his father hadn't found out already.

After that, she had given up and turned back to his father, apparently it was his entire fault. She got up and paced once more following the track she had made in the plush, dark green carpet. She covered her face with her hands and sighed loudly. Not that anyone would hear anyway. His father had installed a mild silencing charm on the room so he wouldn't be too distracted from the noise outside.

"Ow!" she cried as she hit her foot on the desk. Dimitri smiled to himself. Wow she was clumsy. She bent over to ease the pain but it only resulted in her messing up the room even worse. She sat on the ground and lifted all the papers from the floor.

He then watched her paw through all of the private things his father had laid there. She moved as if she owned the place.

She stood up again and placed the papers down. The cheek of her, he just wanted to strangle her. As he stood up, the book he was reading snapped shut. He mentally cursed himself as he saw her head snap toward the bookshelf he was hiding behind. She slowly made her way over and looked at the bookshelves from ceiling to ground that were filled with books. He quickly moved three cases down so that she couldn't see him. As she reached the end of the first one she saw the aisle that led to the rest of them. Of course, she came in and made her way along them toward the side aisle he was hiding in. He thought quickly and raised his wand. Seeing that there was no ministry in the world he lived in, underage magic was a thing of the past, this past. He just hoped that the ministry here wouldn't be able to track it.

"Mezclarus," he whispered as she rounded his aisle. She looked inside, scrutinized the shelves and then turned back toward the front. He sighed and followed her closely to the front of the room. He went to sit in his lounger and surveyed her from there.

She had gone back to his father's desk and sat in his chair. He wanted to hex her to Hades but he couldn't. He needed her to save his mother and the only way to do that would be to take her back with him. He had a plan, and it might work if he could find the right moment to take her. Now was not that time.

He got up silently and made his way back to the last bookcase and turned over the time turner.

He found himself in a familiar place. He was in his father's workplace. He had loved it here when he was younger, before everything started to go wrong. Rayon had destroyed everything and Maleyna was the one to blame for it.

He stood in an unoccupied cubicle and stood up to look over the carpet-covered wooden walls for any sign of his father. He saw him walk to the stairwell but frowned when he went back again to his office. Dimitri smiled at him and began to make his way over. It was then that he saw the red-haired woman in his office. He couldn't see her face but he knew it could only be one person.

His mother.

He then frowned when he noticed what they were probably about to do, judging from the look on his father's face. Instant calculations went on in his mind. He was fourteen, and he had gone back a little over fourteen years. He winced at the thought of his parents conceiving him on a desk.

Eew, he thought to himself drawing it out painfully and looked away immediately.

When he did, he saw a face poke itself out of the door to the stairwell. It was her. She was about to ruin everything again. He had to stop her. He walked briskly toward the stairwell and opened the door widely hoping she was still on the other side. She saw and he had knocked her backwards.

"Oh my- I'm so sorry, did I hurt you?" he said feigning innocence as he picked her up. She looked up at him and gasped, he looked oddly familiar.

Still caught in hid gaze she said, "No, no I don't think so." He picked up the package she had been holding and handed it to her.

"Oh, is there a birthday that we're not aware of here?" She looked at him. He works here? He looked no older than fourteen.

"Erm, I think it might be your boss' actually."

Dad's? That's not for another week. "Mr. Malfoy's? You are joking! Wow, I didn't know he had them." He saw her anxious look. He looked around, they should have been finished by now. He grimaced again at the thought of helping out his own conception. Eew, he thought again. "Well, I'll leave you to it. Wish him happy birthday for me would you? I'm Dimitri." He walked down the steps to the next level looking back at her. He concentrated on finding her when she was alone with no one around. As he rounded the steps he took out the time turner and flipped it over.

"Erm... okay," she said to the empty space he left behind. She walked out into the office in time to see Draco close his office door.

'Where the hell am I now?' he thought as he made his way across the grass. He was hearing water, he knew he was. Then someone was humming. He walked to where the sound grew stronger, it was a man. As he stepped out onto a bank he looked to his left and saw his father sitting by a tree. He quirked his head. What was he doing there? He focused on the tune. He knew that tune. Where had he heard that before?

Someone was walking up behind him, her hair blowing in the wind. 'Is her hair blue?' he thought and then shook it off. He had wanted her alone. Not when she was with his father, again.

He hid behind a nearby hedge straining to hear what they were saying. He made out some of the words like, "Stay away from me." That was his father. He was glad he had gotten his senses back.

Some kind of arguing continued until it went silent. He peered over the hedge to see them... hugging? What the hell is that about?

Then he pushed her away.

"I don't love you," he heard. "I never have." Then he was gone.

Dimitri frowned. When did he ever love her? Was he cheating on mum? He thought back to his mother at the office and how she was probably pregnant if his calculations were correct. He was seeing the same woman who had caused her death and now he was leaving her. He began to wonder. That's probably why she refused to help.

He sighed and walked over to her crying form. He took out his wand and summoned a shielding spell. No one should be seeing this but them. He hadn't quite mastered it as much as his brother had but it still worked. It didn't matter if those it was meant to shield were trapped in a mini whirlwind. She was rocking herself backwards and forwards muttering something to herself. He held out his hand to her. She snapped out of it long enough to notice that nowhere else seemed to be upset by this wind but her. When she looked straight ahead she saw him standing in front of her with his hand out. She looked as if she recognized him from somewhere but couldn't pinpoint it.

She looked at him strangely. Have I seen you before, she thought to herself before getting cut from her thoughts.

"Come with me," he said as he took out his father's time turner from his shirt. She paused to look at it. She knew that time turner.

His patience grew thin. "Get - up." He waited.

She rose from her spot on the grass. He looped the chain around her and turned the top before flipping it upside down. It was time to go home.
