Chapter 1: The Hogwarts Express
Brittany followed her cousin to platform 9 and ¾. She was terribly nervous, and her once long, beautiful nails were now jagged and almost past the quick. She mentally chastised herself for developing such a horrid habit when, according to Hermione, there was nothing to worry about. Of course, she HAS been going to Hogwarts for five years, is in the top of her classes, and she has two great friends! She thought. Not to mention the fact that her cousin had come into her powers at 11 like she was supposed to, and not 15 like Brittany. Her parents, much like the Dursleys to Harry, had kept all her Hogwarts letters from her. They, however, had done a much better job. When her parents were confronted by Hermione's, everything had been brought out into the open, and Brittany was kicked out, and then taken in by her aunt, uncle, and cousin. The underage magic restriction being bended (due to Professor Dumbledore's incessant persuasion to the Ministry, of course!) exclusively for Brittany's catching up, Hermione taught her four years of Potions, Charms, and so on, in one summer. If only two people could teach and learn that quickly, it was Hermione and Brittany Granger.
After walking through the barrier and boarding the train, Brittany and Hermione searched for Harry and Ron. They soon found them and when they were all properly introduced (Harry being tongue-tied at the sight of Brittany.), They found an empty compartment and sat down. As Hermione began lecturing the boys on not getting the last bit of their summer lessons up, ("Honestly! Brittany going through four years, and you two can't even get up one summer's worth!") Brittany's gaze drifted to the compartment across from them. Sitting inside were a dark-haired, pug-faced girl, two...er...rather large boys, and...her eys widened. A boy. That boy. He was tall, but quite muscular. He very pale, but not pasty looking at all, with sleek, silvery-blonde hair. His eyes were what got her. She had never seen any like them before, pure silver, kind of cold looking, as if he had never been purely happy before. It was only when he looked up at her, brow arched, that she reddened and looked away. She gently touched her cousin's shoulder.
"'Mione, who is that boy over there! The blonde one!" She nodded her head in his direction. Hermione looked over and, seeing whom it was, scowled.
"That's Draco Malfoy. He's the most foul, loathsome creature you'll ever meet!" Brittany's smile faded, and she was noticeably disappointed. Ron's jaw dropped.
"You mean you actually fancy him!? Are you nutters!? Malfoy's-YOW!" Ron yelped in response to Harry's punch in the arm. They rolled their eyes at him.
"What I believe Ron was trying to say, is that Malfoy is no good. Not deserving of someone like you in a million years!" Ron glanced sideways at his dark-haired friend. He could tell that Harry was already falling for Hermione's cousin. Brittany smiled at Harry. Oh, he was nice enough, she supposed, and really quite adorable. Still, she knew the longing to meet and get to know Draco Malfoy was not going to go away anytime soon.
Draco looked up through the window of his compartment at the girl with brown hair, striking green eyes, and slightly parted lips. As soon as she realized he was looking back at her, however, her eyes widened. She blushed a deep red, bit her lip, and turned away quickly. The young Malfoy elbowed his friend in the gut.
"Ow! Blimey, Draco, what was that for!?"
"Quiet, you ponce!" Draco hissed. "I was just going to ask you who that girl sitting with Potter, the weasel, and the mudblood is." Crabbe looked over at the girl.
"Hmm...I dunno. Never seen her before today. She looks like she might be related to Granger." Draco sneered.
"If she does, she's probably another mublood."
"I dunno, Draco. Maybe her parents aren't muggles."
"Defending her, are you Crabbe? What, do you fancy her?" Draco laughed at his friend.
Draco tried to concentrate on his friends, but he always ended up looking at the girl. He desperately wanted to know her name. That hair. Oh, how he wanted to touch- Bollocks! He thought. Honestly, Draco, what are you thinking!? She's a filthy mudblood, for Merlin's sake! And even if she wasn't, she's friends with POTTER, of all people. She's probably over there fawning over him this very moment. How he hated Harry Potter, The Boy Who Lived.
If only knew, that when he managed to take his eyes away from Brittany, she was staring right back at him.
