An Apology is Just Words

Chapter 6: Even Angels Fall

Harry and Ron were getting ready for the Halloween Ball, and Harry was dateless. Of course, Ron didn't want to rub it in his face that he was going with Hermione, but Ron knew that Harry didn't care about Hermione. Harry cared about Ginny. But Ginny didn't care about Harry. Harry was even lucky if he got a second glance.

"What are you thinking about Harry?" Ron asked, fixing his robes. Ron finally got new dress robes, which were black, an unusual color for Ron.

"Nothing," Harry lied. Ron glanced at Harry.

"Nothing huh? So I guess that you aren't thinking about the fact that Ginny is going dateless to this event right?" Ron said, wanting to push Harry's buttons.

"She is going dateless?" Harry asked, suddenly anxious.

"Yeah. But what does it matter to you? You never liked her," Ron said, fixing his hair. Harry didn't want to start an argument between him and Ron. Ron didn't approve of Harry liking his sister, for the fact that Harry was his best friend.

"Ron, stop it. You know the truth," Harry said, brushing his hair. Ron grabbed Harry by the shoulders and shook him.

"You are in a battle you could never win. Stop fighting," Ron said. Harry nodded.

"Yeah, you're right. I should stop fighting," Harry said, pulling away from Ron. Harry walked to the door and left. Ron stood there and sighed. Then he went to go and get Hermione.

Hermione was standing in the Common Room wearing a periwinkle colored robe. Her hair was straightened and put into an elegant bun and she was wearing a bit of makeup. Ron had to stop his mouth from dropping. He approached Hermione, and smiled. "You ready?" he asked, taking her hand.

"Whenever you are," she said with a laugh. Ron took a deep breath and escorted her to the Great Hall.

Draco was sitting at his table, by himself. Sure, he came dateless, but that didn't mean that girls didn't ask him. He just refused them all. He was finishing up his fifth glass of Butterbeer when Ron came to the microphone. "Let the Ball begin!" he yelled. The crowd cheered and Draco just clapped. He knew that this ball would be a total drag.

Draco looked around. Then he saw it. Ginny was standing with her friends laughing. Best of all, she was wearing the robes that he bought for her. She looked truly happy, and dateless. "Hello Draco," a soft voice said into his ears. He turned around to see Blaise, smiling at him.

"What do you want?" he said, getting right to the point.

"A dance," she said simply. Draco laughed.

"I pass," Draco said, getting up and moving away from Blaise. Blaise sat in his chair. Blaise wasn't able to get a date for the Ball, due to her now ruined reputation.

Blaise remembered when she dated Malfoy. That possibly was the best relationship she has ever been in. He knew where to touch her, what to get her and how to treat her. He was a classic women pleaser. She knew that she shouldn't have kissed Seamus Finnigan, but she couldn't resist him. Seamus was cute and rich. She couldn't refuse.

But when Draco caught them that were the end of that. She didn't want to hurt Draco, but it seemed as if she gotten easily bored with just one guy. She never really cheated on Harry, and the only time she was closest to doing that, was when she was in Draco's room. Draco told Ginny that, and Blaise wondered why. Maybe Draco thought that it was right for Ginny to know what the girl that was dating someone she liked was doing. Whatever the reason, Blaise wanted to know.

*~*

Draco was making his way to Ginny, wanting to tell her that she looked fabulous in the robes. Draco pushed people out of the way, and tapped Ginny on the shoulder. "You look good," Draco said, getting it out in the open.

"Thanks to you," she said, with a smile. Draco waved at the girls behind him, half of which asked him to the ball. The girls started giggling.

"Well, I wanted to return the favor," he said. Ginny raised an eyebrow.

"Why?" she asked. Draco laughed.

"You yelled at Blaise. That took guts. I heard you even called her a tramp. Good job," Draco said between laughs. Ginny never heard Draco laughed, but she figured that he was high or something. Don't worry Draco doesn't take drugs!

"Well, I owe it all to you. I mean, if you haven't told me, Harry would probably still be dating that tramp," she said with a smile. Ron went to the mic again.

"Here's a slow song for all you guys!" he yelled. Ginny heard people rushing to get their dancing partners. Draco looked at Ginny.

"Would you like to dance with me?" he asked. Ginny must have been dreaming.

"Umm, sure," she said, taking his hand. He led her onto the dance floor. The song came on and Draco wrapped his arms around her. Ginny wrapped her arms around his shoulders. He was much more taller than her.

The song seemed to single out Draco and Ginny. She felt that they were the only ones on the dance floor.

You found hope

You found faith

Found how fast she could take it away

Found true love

Lost your heart

Now you don't know who you are

Ginny couldn't help but relate to the song. She found hope when she loved Harry. But Blaise took that away.

Draco couldn't help but relate to the song. He never knew who he was, and he has lost his heart and never really got it back. He looked into Ginny's eyes and smiled.

"Having a nice time?" he whispered into her ears.

"Yes," she said. This time, she didn't have to lie.

She made it easy

Made it free

Made it hurt until you couldn't see

Sometimes it stops sometimes it flows

But baby that is how love goes

Draco knew exactly how it felt to hurt and couldn't see. He has been dying each day, not saying anything to the one he truly cared about. He didn't know how she would react. He honestly was scared.

Ginny held Draco closer. She didn't want to tell him what she was thinking right now. She didn't want him to know how she felt.

Harry was sitting at a table nearby. He saw Ginny holding Draco and he turned away. 'You're fighting in a battle you could never win. Stop fighting,' he thought to himself. Why couldn't he fight the way he feels then?

You will fly and you will crawl

God knows even angels fall

No such thing as you lost it all

God knows even angels fall

Harry wanted so badly to get over Ginny. He knew that she would never return his feelings anymore. But when song he heard the part of the song, he couldn't get it out of his head. 'No such thing as you lost it all. That's right. I didn't lose it all. I'm still standing,' he thought to himself.

Ginny was thinking again. 'Maybe that's right. Maybe angels do fall,' she thought. She wished that this were correct.

It's a secret that no one tells

One day it's heaven

One day it's hell

It's no fairy tale

Take it from me

That's the way it's supposed to be

Draco knew about this. Life is no fairy tale. That is the way that life is. You never know what will happen. Draco wished that he knew what would happen next.

Harry told himself that he would apologize to Ginny. He would apologize for everything. For being a dirk to her. For not being a nicer guy. For kissing Blaise when he cared about her.

He stood up and walked to her table. He would wait for her to return.

You will fly and you will crawl

God knows even angels fall

No such thing as you lost it all

God knows even angels fall

Ginny didn't know what to think anymore. Was she willing to give up her life as a respectable Gryffindor for a life of happiness? Will she tell the truth? Could she say it?

Draco brushed away a strand of Ginny's hair from her face. 'Open your eyes Ginny,' he thought.

"Draco?" she asked

"Yes?" he answered.

You laugh you cry

No one knows why

But oh the thrill of it all

You're on the ride

You might as well

Open your eyes

"Why did you ask me to dance?" she asked. Draco smiled at her.

"Because I wanted to," he said, hoping that this was an answer she would accept.

"You wanted to?" she asked. Draco nodded.

"Open your eyes Ginny. See what is in front of you," he said. Ginny nodded. What did he mean?

You will fly and you will crawl

God knows even angels fall

No such thing as you lost it all

God knows even angels fall

Even angels fall

Even angels fall

The song ended, leaving some people unhappy. Draco looked at Ginny. He wanted to tell her what he felt. He couldn't.

"Thank you," he said as he walked away. Ginny didn't stop him. She couldn't

She walked to her table, thinking about the dance. When she got there, Harry was sitting in her seat.

"Harry, what are you doing here?" she asked. She was surprised, but not that angry.

"I wanted to apologize for everything," he started. Before he could finish, Ginny said something before she walked away.

"An apology is just words."
