Chapter 4: The Savior of The Wands

*************

"The what?" Serena asked, blinking.

"The 'Witch--

"I heard!" interrupted Serena. "But... wizardry? What do you mean with that?"

"Let me explain first, ok? Try not to ask questions" the old man proceeded. Serena nodded an let the man talk. "You don't know about this because you are a muggle, (a person with non-magical powers) but around fifty years ago, there was a wizarding world. Yes, a world of magical people. Of witches and wizards.."

"Oh, so that's the stick for, huh?" Serena interrupted mockingly. She didn't quite believe a thing about that.

"We prefer to call them wands. But yes, that's right. It was a world of magical people. I assume you should believe us for what you have seen today. No muggles knew about it because we were very careful on keeping our world a secret."

"It was all perfect, till a dark wizard named Voldemort, started to do... evil things. He had followers. They did terrible things. They killed people and they bewitched a lot more. Until something extraordinary happened. Voldemort was after the Potter family. They were a family of wizards; James Potter, Lily Potter and their one year old son, Harry Potter. Which, by the way, was Sirius's godson. Voldemort managed to find them. He first killed James. Then, he killed Lily. But when he came to Harry, and tried to kill him with the killing curse 'Avada Kedavra', he couldn't. He just vanished, he remained as a single and lonely soul, that couldn't perform magic and couldn't get his body back."

"That's when Harry became famous. He was 'The Boy Who Lived', because no one had ever survived to the killing curse till him. He was a plain one year old baby, and he survived to the most powerful curse ever. Some say what saved him was the love of his mother, that sacrificed herself for him, but we'll never know."

"Harry went to live with his muggle relatives, until he found out he was a wizard and started attending Hogwarts School. It was a boarding school that taught magic to all magical kids. I myself was the headmaster. But then, when Harry was in 3rd year, one of Voldemort's old followers managed to rejoin him and, after a year, helped him to recover his forces."

"Harry's three last years at Hogwarts were dark. Murders, horror, deceit... everything you see around here. In the middle of Harry's last year, he got to face Lord Voldemort. They fought. It was the longest fight I ever saw. It seemed eternal. Harry couldn't win, but his courage and will helped him not to lose. Then people started dying in the meantime."

"There was nothing we could do. The fight was between them two, and if lives had to be sacrificed, we would have to deal with it. Till the end, when the wizards' world was almost destroyed, Harry got a solution. Out of his pure wits and a bit of my help, if I can add. The only thing he could do: kill himself. He was already so bound to Voldemort through different spells that his own death would instantly provoke Lord Voldemort's death."

"Many people tried to talk him out of it, but he wouldn't. Specially his best friends, Ron Weasley (Arthur's son) and Hermione Granger. Till finally, he did it. He killed himself in front of everyone. I still recall in my head Hermione's loud shriek when it happened. No one could believe it. But the worst was still to come."

"When Voldemort finally died for good, his followers (that called themselves 'deatheaters') got into a wave of rage that no one thought was ever possible. They all joined themselves together and started a genocide with no mercy. They fiercely murdered wizards and witches through all the world. Entire families, children... it was terrible. Then, something happened."

"I remembered Godric Gryffindor's sword. It was a sword Harry got in his 2nd year. I knew that that little object was our salvation. So I used the sword against the deatheaters. I never knew such a little object could have such a strong power. But it worked. I finished off all the deatheaters. But when I did, it was too late. The whole wizard kind had been killed, except for the survivors you see here in this table. We lost our families, friends, and practically everyone we knew. We were hopeless. There was nothing we could do. We couldn't turn back in time, because there was no way to avoid everything that had happened. Either way, it would have happened."

"So I started investigating. I started reading some very old books to see if our world had any hope. Then, I found it. In a very ancient wizard bible, written by a very wise and powerful man, there was a prophecy. The prophecy of the 'Savior of The Wands'. This prophecy told more less the story I just told you; about a boy that would sacrifice himself for the world against a dark wizard, and then that the dark followers would murder without mercy until the ancient sword of the bravest wizard came across them. It said that the only hope to regain a wizard kind would be 'The Savior of the Wands'. The savior of the Wands is supposed to be 'The Boy Who Lived's true heir. A wizard, of course. He's supposed to turn back in time and help 'The Boy Who Lived' to win the battle in another way. He's supposed to be the only one that can change the past by helping him to win the battle, and by doing so, save our kind. Of course, there are some lives that are not meant to be saved. All those that died before Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort's fight."

"That's when we formed this Community. We've been looking for the heir since then." Dumbledore finished saying this with such weariness that Serena thought he might pass out on the spot. After all, he was an old man, and he'd just spoken more than he was probably capable of.

Serena's only reaction was: "And why are you telling me this?"

Dumbledore looked at her as if that was the most stupid question in the universe. "Isn't it obvious? Your son is The Savior Of The Wands!"

"Whaaat?!" Serena felt her knees buckle as she processed that information. "But... that can't be....I mean.... I'm no witch! And I don't think my Harry's father was either, considering you said all of them were killed..."

"The Savior Of The Wands doesn't have to be child of wizards. He can't be, actually, if there's no wizards left..."

"And how do you know my Harry is the Savior of who knows what?!" These people are mentals... Serena thought.

"Because! I told you, we've been looking for this heir for forty-three years! We've watched your son very closely, we can tell! He's name is Harry, just like Harry Potter! He even looks very similar to him! And he was born on July 31st, that's Harry Potter's birthday! What more proof do you need?"

Serena silently sat in the floor. She thought for a minute. It all made sense. "So, you're saying that's why my son is... well, weird?"

"Yes, that's why. Because he carries this huge burden. A whole world is on his hands, his world! He's a wizard! And of course, after he saves our kind, he would be able to live a normal life as a wizard. And he wouldn't be... weird anymore. He'd be freed of this huge burden!"

Serena still sat there, thinking. She was trying to understand and believe everything she had learned in the past hour at the same time. "What does he have to do?" she asked in a flat tone of voice.

"Well, I told you. Return back in time and help Harry Potter save our world."

"But he's too young!" she yelped immediately.

"We know. He doesn't have to do this until his seventeenth birthday. That's what the prophecy says. The prophecy says when The Savior turns seventeen, what he has to do is touch a wand. That's the only thing he's got to do; touch a wand for the first time. By doing this, he'll be transported in time to Harry Potter's time. He'll have to help him save the world. When he does, he'll instantly return to our time."

"But of course, this has got some risks. If he doesn't save the world, then he won't be able to return, and he'll die."

"Oh my god! I'm not going to let my baby do that!" Serena exclaimed. She was clearly very upset.

"Sorry, Serena, but you can't stop it. We told you about this so you could be part of it voluntarily and bring him to us yourself when he turns seventeen. If you don't want to collaborate, we'll go get him when the time comes. And hiding won't work, because it's his destiny and it can't be avoided. So it's your choice. If you want to be hostile, go ahead, but it won't save him from fulfilling his chore. I understand you are scared and you fear for him, but I recommend you to cooperate."

There was a long silence. "Why him?" Serena asked in a low voice. She had tears in her eyes.

"I don't know, Serena" Dumbledore responded. More silence.

After a long time, Serena sighed and gave in. "Okay. I promise I'll bring him here when he turns seventeen. I just hope he's fine..." she said, narrowing her eyes.

"Ennervate!" Dumbledore shouted at Harry. He quickly woke up.

He blinked and asked: "What happened?"

"Nothing, dear, we are going home." Serena whispered, giving her son a lopsided grin.

The wizards gave them a last shy smile before they disappeared through the door.

She didn't quite know how she got herself out of that place, but when she did, she was very happy about it. That night, she thought to herself: Hmmm... the future of wizards rests in my son's hands. It's such a huge responsibility to such a young little kid!... Poor Harry... it seems like everything happens to him!...
