Me and a Slytherin?: A Hermione Story-2-Confessions
The next day, during double potions with Slytherin, Hermione felt someone's eyes on her. She tried to ignore it, but couldn't help but look up. She looked all around the room before spotting the source. Draco Malfoy was watching her. He turned away when she saw him. But after a minute he looked back at her, and this time she was already watching him. Their eyes locked for a moment, then they both looked away.
"Today I will discuss the Polyjuice potion. Take notes. They will be turned in at the end of class," Professor Snape said.
The next half minute or so, there was much scrambling through bags for parchment and quills. When everyone was finally ready, Professor Snape began again.
"The Polyjuice potion is to be found in a book entitled Moste Potente Potions. It is in the restricted section of the library."
Hermione glanced over at Malfoy who scribbled something on his parchment, tore it off the roll, and stuffed it into his robes. He looked up at her, who looked suspiciously back at him. Finally, Hermione just went back to listening to the teacher.
"The Polyjuice potion changes the appearance of the drinker, to whom ever they wish. The only thing, is you need a bit of the person you're going to change into. Like a hair, for example. Which is most commonly used."
At this the students made groans and disgusted noises. They were silenced when Snape gave them a piercing look.
"The ingredients are lacewing flies, leeches, fluxweed, knotgrass, powdered horn of a bicorn, and shredded skin of boomslang."
Hermione already knew the ingredients, and after their second year, how could she forget. Harry, Ron, and herself had made a polyjuice potion to get a confession out of Malfoy. They suspected him as the heir of Slytherin. So Harry became Goyle, and Ron, Crabbe. Hermione, however, had accidentally gotten a cat hair and had to go to the nurses to get rid of the thich fur that covered her face.
Hermione took another glance at Malfoy, who looked disgusted. Probably at the though of 'a bit of the person you're changing into'.
The class went by slowly. When it was finally over, Harry, Ron and Hermione left together. But not before another look at Malfoy. He saw her and she thought she saw the faintest sign of a smile.
* * *
The next three days, Hermione had seen Malfoy in the library. It was odd, him being there. Crabbe and Goyle had quit coming since the first time.
One day, having been watching Malfoy for at least five whole minutes, Hermione got up and walked over to where Malfoy sat. He didn't notice her until she sat down beside him. He looked up at her.
"Hi," Hermione said.
"H-Hi," he managed. He looked back down at the book that lay spread out on the table.
"Do you need any help?" she asked.
"NO! I'm doing just fine without your help!" he snapped, not taking his eyes off the book. Then he looked up at her, his expression changed. He didn't look mad. In fact, he looked sad. Almost sorry.
Hermione didn't intercept this look as a look of sadness. She stood, pushed in her chair, and stalked off. She didn't even look back.
She stormed right out of the library, and up to Gryffindor tower.
"Hermione-" Harry began.
She went right past them and to the girls' dormitories. She was the only girl in there. Then the door opened slowly, and Lavender Brown poked her head in. She stepped in and closed the door behind her. She walked right over to Hermione's bed and sat down next to her.
"Let me guess... hmmm... Ron asked you to come up here and see how I was?" Hermione said.
Lavender nodded.
"I knew it! Why can't he just leave me alone? You tell your boyfriend to keep his nose out of where it doesn't belong, okay?" Hermione asked.
"'Mione, he's your friend. He's just worried about you, that's all. And so is Harry."
And to Lavender's amazement, Hermione began to cry. Lavender put her arm around her friends shoulder, and rocked back and forth a little.
"It's okay," she comforted.
After Hermione's sobbing decreased, Lavender began talking again.
"What is it? Come on, 'Mione. You can tell me. I won't tell Ron."
Hermione looked up.
"Promise?"
"Yes."
"I think I like someone-"
"Ooh, really? Who?" Lavender said in an anxious voice.
"Well... I don't know exactly... I probably shouldn't."
"Why?"
"Because Harry and Ron sorta.. well isn't that the understatement of the century! They really hate him. Well, everyone does, except..."
"Well, he's in Slytherin," Hermione finally said.
Lavender gasped.
"Slytherin?" she asked. "Who is he? What's his name?"
"Er... Malfoy... Draco Malfoy," Hermione answered.
Lavender's shocked face changed. She relaxed a little.
"What?"
"Well, he IS extremely cute!" Lavender admitted.
Hermione could agree.
"So, why are you crying, though?"
"He's been going to the library the past three days, including today. Today I walked up to him and sat down by him. Then I asked him if he needed any help and he snapped at me."
"He IS in Slytherin," Lavender reminded her.
"Yes, but you should have seen him when I first sat down. He looked really nervous, and suddenly he changed. Just like that." She snapped her fingers.
"Oh."
"I don't know what to do. I've fallen for a Slytherin," Hermione said, finally looking in her friend's eyes.
