Special thanks to my beta reader/muse Artemis Sprite for being the inspiration for Eva O'Clair. Without her, Eva's character wouldn't be nearly as cool as she is. Also, special thanks and a great big hello to Tara for being the inspiration for Miss Ruka D'Arcy.

A wolf in Slayer's Clothing

Chapter one:

Welcome Back

Sirius Black landed his broom and smiled as he looked upon the school.

"Man it's good to be free," he said aloud as he walked toward the large oak doors. Just as he was about to open them the doors swung open and Professor Dumbledore stood before him.

"Sirius!" Dumbledore exclaimed, a smile on his face. He embraced his old friend in a hug.

"Hello Dumbledore,"

"Come to meet some of the new staff early?" Dumbledore inquired with a small smile.

"Yeah, I'm scouting out the hired help," Sirius joked. "I also came to say good bye," he added a frown forming on his face.

"I expected as much," Dumbledore said nodding. "Come along then, I shall introduce you," Sirius and Dumbledore entered the school and walked side by side down the Entrance Hall. Sirius gazed around the school, dozens of memories flooding his mind and he smiled. He only wanted to remember the good times now.

"Why are you retiring now?" Sirius asked as they walked.

"I felt a vacation was in order," Dumbledore said. "Don't you fret, Minerva and selected others know where I shall be, if I am needed, I shall be contacted."

"Oh," Sirius said. He followed Dumbledore and realized that they were headed toward the dungeons. Sirius paused at the top of the stairs that led down to the gloomy abyss. "I already know Snape," he said obviously annoyed at the mere thought at working with that man, if you could call him that.

"I am well aware that you know Severus," Dumbledore said with a chuckle. "I'm taking you to meet our Muggle Combat instructors,"

"Instructors? Muggle Combat?" Sirius questioned raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, we have added a new class. It was too much for some of the students to try to learn magical defense as well as Muggle so we separated the two classes and made the Muggle combat optional to fifth, sixth, and seventh years," Dumbledore explained. "Sanura and Eva are absolutely wonderful people,"

"Females?" Sirius said in surprise. "Wait a second, is this the 'vampire lady' Harry used to tell us about? The one that went to sleep because of Snape? Harry will be thrilled, he couldn't stop talking about her, Ron enjoyed her class, and I've never heard Ginny speak badly of her. Neville will be especially pleased," Sirius paused and then added. "And she failed Draco Malfoy, that takes talent,"

"The very same," Dumbledore said quite pleased that the children who would be joining them this term as either professors or assistants still remembered Sanura. They were nearing the training room when they heard angry shouting coming from inside the Potions Lab. "Oh dear," Dumbledore said moving to enter the room.

Chapter Two:

Trouble in Paradise

Sanura and Severus were arguing again. They had been a couple since Harry's fifth year at Hogwarts and until recently things had been fine. After he had made Sanura and her friends mortal again they had decided that they were indeed in love and would share living quarters. Living with Severus was not much different from not living with him for he was extremely old fashioned. He and Sanura did not get closer as they had expected but rather they had started to drift apart. Sometimes Sanura wondered if he loved her of if she was a sort of walking trophy to him. When an owl flew into the room that morning Sanura opened the mail the way she always did. The letter she discovered was one that shocked and frightened her. Without hesitation she had decided to confront Severus about it.

"How could you do this?" Sanura shrieked waving a piece of parchment in front of Severus' face.

"Do what?" he said in an annoyed tone.

"This!" she said shoving the parchment in his hand and placing her hands on her hips.

"What's this?"

"Can't you read?" Sanura snapped. "It's from the Ministry. The Misuse of Magic office is summoning you. They claim that your vampire cure hasn't been tested properly...at all as a matter of fact,"

Severus said nothing. He looked down at the piece of parchment and his silence confirmed the letter. "Sanura I..." he began.

"You what?" she snapped. "Did you bother to use this on anyone besides Eva, Christian, and myself? Did you ever stop to think that one day we could just keel over and die because of your potion!" Sanura demanded. "You overzealous bastard! Your arrogance could cost you your job and me my life!"

Dumbledore and Sirius had been listening at the door until this point. They quietly entered the room but neither Sanura or Severus realized that they now had an audience.

"Now hold on one moment," Severus snapped rising from his seat behind the cauldron he was stirring. "How dare you come in here screaming at me this way, if it weren't for you I never would have left Hogwarts to find that cure. You should be on your knees thanking me,"

"On my knees thanking you?" she said in disbelief. "You honestly think that I'm going to praise you because you let your ambition take over your ability to care for anyone but yourself? I didn't ask you to go and find me a cure. I was accepting of what I was,"

"Then why did you sleep when I left?" Severus demanded. He rounded the cauldron and glared at Sanura.

"Because I could not accept the fact that you asked me to stay with you and when you realized that me staying meant you had to love a vampire you ran away. You were the one that decided you had to find a cure. You were the one that had to change me. I didn't ask for that and if I would have known that you and I would be at each others' throats because of it I never would have taken your fucking potion! I became what I was because of you, I should have done the honorable slayer thing and died!"

Severus could take her arrogance no longer. He raised his hand to strike her realizing the error of his ways seconds too late. She had grabbed his wrist and twisted it. He heard the snapping of his bones and realized that she had broken it.

"You bitch," he squealed as he fell to his knees, grasping his broken wrist.

"I'll be damned if I'm going to be with someone who doesn't want me...who doesn't love me...but worse I'll really be damned if I'm going to stay with someone who thinks he should be worshipped," she removed the silver snake ring that Severus had given her during their first Christmas together from her finger and threw it on the ground. "This relationship has been terminated," she turned to leave the room and a wave of pain swept over her. Grasping her stomach and moaning in pain she began to collapse to the ground. Sirius reacted with the reflexes of a cat and gracefully caught her.

Eva felt a strange cramp coursing through her and realized that she was not going to be mortal much longer. She remembered this exact feeling when she had been turned into a vampire the first time. The 'cure' that Severus had provided them with was wearing off. All the signs were there, and not just for her but Christian and Sanura as well. She was having strange cravings...she knew the craving for blood all too well. Sanura kept telling her that it was nothing. Because she couldn't get blood Sanura began to eat large amounts of salt as did Christian. Only Eva seemed to be accepting of the recent turn of events. She closed her eyes and laid her head again the back of the couch.

Eva. She heard in the back of her mind. She sat up and opened her eyes realizing that her telepathy was returning as well, and she had to get to the infirmary because Sanura needed her.

"Christian!!" Eva shouted. "I'm going to the infirmary to see Sanura, do you want me to take Isabella?" Christian poked his head through the doorway that lead to the kitchen.

"No, you can let her with me, we are making cookies," Christian said with a smile. Eva heard the all too familiar squeal of her daughter Isabella. "She's covered in flour," Christian said grinning.

"You two are adorable," Eva said laughing as she made her trip to the infirmary.

Chapter Three:

The Tell-Tale Heart

Sanura could see nothing but red. The color pulsed around her in a tempo that she could not place. She wanted the sound to stop. It grew louder as Madam Pomfrey walked closer to her. Dumbledore and Sirius were standing in Madam Pomfrey's office waiting for further instructions.

"What's wrong with me?" Sanura gasped clasping her hands over her ears. As suddenly as the sound had started it stopped.

"I don't know what's wrong with you dear," Madam Pomfrey said frowning. "Is it possible...I mean, I don't mean to pry...but is it possible that you are pregnant dear?"

"No. Snape still leaves the room when I change my clothes," Sanura said rolling her eyes. "He hasn't done more than kiss me and even that's tame,"

Sirius rolled his eyes and said sarcastically, "that's Snape, afraid to be normal, even sex is beyond him," Dumbledore chuckled softly to himself. Sirius did have a point. Sleeping in the same bed with this woman for two years and he refused to touch her. That takes willpower even Dumbledore didn't have.

"Oh," Madam Pomfrey said awkwardly realizing that she had hit a nerve. "I don't know what's wrong with you," She walked away from the bed and Eva rushed into the room.

"Are you okay?" Eva asked as she ran to Sanura's bedside.

"Fine, never better," Sanura said.

"Liar."

"Okay so I'm not okay," Sanura said. She was about to tell Eva about what had happened in the dungeons between her and Severus but didn't have to.

"You two fought again didn't you?"

"Yes,"

"How bad was it this time?" Eva asked gently. She knew that within the last two months they had fought about everything from what Sanura was (or wasn't as this case may be) wearing to bed, to what happened once they were in bed. Sanura began to sob and Eva knew that whatever had happened between Sanura and Severus had been bad enough to end the relationship.

"He didn't even care enough to test the fucking thing first!" Sanura said suddenly. "We could all just die because he decided that we would make the best guinea pigs!"

"What are you talking about?" Eva asked although she already knew.

"That stupid god damned Vampire Cure! He didn't clear it with the ministry, he didn't test it properly...it could be fatal or worse,"

"It could just wear off too," Eva said. "You've got cramps, you eat salt like you drink water, you don't sleep at night, you hear other's thoughts, and you want blood,"

"I do not want blood," Sanura said a little too quickly.

"You hear a pounding you can not place don't you? It gets louder when someone's next to you and fades the farther away they are. You feel like you're thirsty regardless of how much you've had to drink and you see red don't you?"

"How did you..." Sanura began but the pounding started again. She violently threw her hands over her head. "Make it stop Eva please!" She shrieked. Eva stood up and noticed that Severus Snape had entered the room, his face was puffy and red and his wrist was bandaged.

"You sprained his wrist?" Eva questioned.

"No," Sanura said trying to concentrate on Eva and not the relentless sound of the beating heart. "I broke it,"

"Ouch," Eva said. "Can you still hear it?"

"Yes make it stop please before I..." Sanura began squeezing her eyes shut tightly. She opened her eyes aware only of the beating of Severus' heart. He was approaching her. "No, go away," she uttered but he did not hear her. Eva stood up and backed away. She knew all too well that trying to fight a vampire who was suffering from this type of bloodlust would only result in her death. Try as she might, Sanura could not fight the sudden urge to rip him limb from limb and drink his blood. She tried to stumble out of bed and lock herself in a room so she would not hurt him but she could not. Baring her freshly created fangs she sprang from the bed and sunk her teeth into Severus' neck. He thrashed desperately under the weight of Sanura's newfound strength. He continued to thrash about trying in vain to get away but to no avail. As suddenly as the attack had started Sanura dropped him and bolted from the room as if she had just committed a horrendous crime. Not knowing how badly injured he was Severus stumbled to the sink in the corner and looked at the fresh wounds on his neck. He knew that he would not die but part of him wished that he would. He had failed.
