Blood For Blood
The Return of Viktor Krum
Chapter One
The dark hours were a time of particular dread for Viktor Krum. Often he would wake up at night and wander about his room in an intense state of fear. He left bright lights turned on in his room hoping to drive out the very thought of the dementors. Sometimes he would stay up until the early hours of the morning so that darkness would not last so long. There were times he would have some of the servants stay near his room to come to him when he screamed. They would rush in his room to find him sitting on the edge of his bed trembling with such fear that his bed vibrated madly. Regularly the servants ran to his room because he would be screaming hysterically for help. They would have to keep him company until the sunrise drove away his fear. It would take them some time to calm him down. It was as if he couldn't move from his spot. They also noted that when he did calm down, he would whisper a name with great hatred. The name was Granger.
Other times his father; Paris Krum, would enter his son's room to find Viktor gasping for air as if he was being suffocated. He would be shouting unintelligible sentences to someone he thought was in his room. He let out a frightful shriek. He would push his father away and go to a corner in his room, sway back and forth with his eyes looking wildly about his room. He would scream to his father: "There! There! In the corner! Don't you see?" He would stamp his feet and begin convulsing. He would finally calm down when his father showed him there was no one there. His father would hold his once powerful son in his arms and comfort him. However, along with his compassion for his son was a very deep hatred for those who put him in the wizard's prison, Azkaban. When Viktor Krum would babble out Hermione Granger's name, Paris Krum, would agree with him that they would exact their revenge blood for blood.
Paris Krum was a very powerful and influential man. His family was pure blood and went back very far in the wizard world. He was respected, but also feared. He was one of the most sadistic wizards known. It was rumored that even Voldemort had some respect for him. The rumor went that if Voldemort did not respect him, he certainly did respect his ruthlessness. He enjoyed his relationship with the Malfoys, but was delighted that Lucius Malfoy's son, Draco, was a coward compared to his son, Viktor. Viktor, although as ruthless as his father, did not lack for courage. The Malfoys and his son had tried to kill Hermione Granger. By taking her life they felt that Harry Potter would be so distraught about her loss that he would not be in the right frame of mind to protect himself from an attack by Voldemort. However, their efforts failed when Draco Malfoy for once in his life got brave and stood between his father and Viktor to protect Granger from the killing curses of their wands. Lucius Malfoy killed his own son and then Ron Weasley killed Lucius Malfoy. His son, Viktor was attacked but not killed. He ended up in Azkaban. After some time in Azkaban, Viktor Krum's father, with his powerful connections, was able to get his son released. However, he was only a shell of a man. Nevertheless, with proper care he would be brought back to full strength. Paris Krum would also be very careful to nurture the flower of hatred in his son's heart for Miss Hermione Granger. Revenge would be sweet.
One afternoon, Viktor Krum, had a very intense attack of fear. He screamed and screamed. The servants made their usual haste to his room. When they arrived they tried to calm him down. Paris Krum was not at the mansion. He had left early in the morning to look into family matters. The servants knew that if they did not succeed in calming Viktor down that Paris Krum would find out and the punishments would be severe. They knew very well that in the mansion there was a dungeon where Paris Krum had various devices of torture. All of them had experienced his wrath in various degrees. One servant named Fortnato stole some Quidditch trophies that Viktor had earned at his world cup appearances. Fortnato had sold them in Diagon Alley. Paris Krum had him hunted down and brought back to the mansion. After some preliminary beatings, Paris Krum had Mr. Fortnato brought to the dungeon by his servants. They dragged him down a long winding tunnel. They were ordered by Paris Krum to stop at a part of the wall that had chains and manacles on it. He then ordered the servants to chain Mr. Fortnato to the wall. After this Paris Krum had a chair and wine brought to him. He told his servants to leave and then patiently waited for the masons he had hired to come and build a wall around a screaming Fortnato. After his servants witnessed this they were too afraid to leave Paris Krum.
After some time an old woman entered Viktor Krum's room. She shuffled pass the servants and sat down in a chair by the screaming Krum. Some of the servants were attempting to hold him down. The old woman placed her crippled hands around Viktor Krum's head. She smoothed his hair back and whispered to him. Viktor began to be quiet to the relief of the servants. The servants holding him down released him into the care of the old woman. For whatever the reason this old woman seemed to have a calming affect on Viktor Krum. As they were leaving Paris Krum entered the room and was furious that there was no one to meet him at the door to take his hat and cloak. He took a whip like stick he liked to carry on his person and began to beat the servant nearest to him. It was then that he saw his son being cuddled by the old woman. He yelled for everyone to get out. The old woman rose from her chair and shook as she left with the servants. Paris Krum went to his son and began to comfort him, but also started a mild rebuke at his son for not being able to overcome this fear. Paris Krum had wine brought to him and his son. He gave his son a large glass. The wine began to sooth Viktor Krum. He began to smile. As time passed they began to discuss their plans of revenge.
