I’ve never been anything special. The only thing special I’ve done is set a basilisk on all the kids at Hogwarts. Everyone has forgotten about that now. Now, I’m yet again, plain, red haired, freckled, Ginny Weasley.

It doesn’t help that I’m madly in love with the most famous boy in the whole of the wizarding world either, Harry Potter. I’ve already tried to get his attention, in 2nd year, that didn’t turn out well. Fred and George are still reciting “his hair is as black as a blackboard.” Which is why I was so surprised that in my 3rd year boys started noticing me.

Sure, I’ve had plenty boyfriends, but never the one that I want, the one that I have always wanted. Ron, my brother, has tried to help me get Harry, but even being his best friend, Harry doesn’t catch on to the hints Ron throws at him. So, I’ve just given up on him, given up on love in general… until one very dreary day.

I was sitting in the Gryffindor Common Room, minding my own business doing my potions homework, and Harry came up and sat beside me. He said nothing, and I said nothing for a while, then he turned to me and said a simple, “Hallo.” That simple hallo was all that was needed to set my hormones on fire, and my heart definitely started beating 3 times faster than it had been before.

“Hello,” I replied, trying to sound cool… I don’t think it worked very well though.

“What are you doing?” he asked, looking over my shoulder. I could feel his breath on my neck.

“Oh, me, eeeeer, uh, homework, yeah, that’s it, homework,” I said, my cheeks as red as my hair now.

     “What class?”

Was he trying to make conversation, because I was his best friend’s little sister, or did he actually want to know?

“P-p-p-potions,” I managed to get out.

“That’s a bloody pain in the ass; want some ‘elp?”

I was so shocked. Harry wanted to help me with homework? HARRY POTTER WANTED TO HELP ME WITH MY HOMEWORK! “Sure,” I squeaked. Harry went over it with me, and we were done in less than five minutes.

“Thanks a million!” I said, with a huge grin on my face.

“Any time…er, Ginny, there’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you.”

My heart skipped a beat. “What is it Harry?”

“Well, er, if you’re not already going with anyone, er, um, would you, um, do you, er, doyouwannagotothehalloweenballwithme?”

It took me a while to decipher what Harry had asked but when it hit me I was at a loss for words. Harry, taking my silence wrong said, “Oh, er, guess not,” and started to walk away.

“WAIT!” I called after him. He turned around as he was going up the stairs to his dormitory; his bright green eyes seemed to pierce through me. “I’d love to go to the ball with you, Harry.”

His face lit up “Great!” he said, and barged back down the stairs, grabbed me around the waist and kissed me, right on the lips. He let go and smiled, “I have to go do my homework now, but this is just great Ginny!” He kissed me again, and went up to his dormitory.

Now I have realized that everyone has a chance with someone, you just have to give it time.
