Chapter 11: What?
Ginny stood just breathing and staring at Lucius. She tried to figure our what in the hell she could do, but she couldn't think of a thing. She was saved the necessity of answering by the arrival of almost twenty Aurors who Apparated into the room with loud cracks.
Lucius was quick to react, however, grabbing Ginny and hugging her back to his chest, his wand pointed at her temple.
"Don't move or I swear I'll kill her," Lucius yelled. Ginny held perfectly still and gulped for breath. The Aurors paused and looked uncertain.
Harry, at the front of the group, spoke first, "You don't want to do that Lucius. The time to perform the ceremony is past. If you come with us quietly, we promise to be more lenient."
"Lenient?" sneered Lucius. "I don't need your mercy. The Dark Lord may not rise again, but who's to say there can't be a new Dark Lord?" Lucius smiled. "Yes, from this point on, I am the new Dark Lord. All will cower when they hear the name-"
Lucius was cut short by someone yelling "Stupefy!" and a jet of red light shot out of thin air and hit Lucius square in the back. He crumpled forward, taking Ginny with him, pinning her with the weight of his body.
Chaos erupted with Aurors hurling curses and hexes at the Death Eaters and vice versa. A few of the Death Eaters tried to get Ginny, but whenever anyone got too close, the same invisible person downed them before any harm could come to her.
Ginny was beginning to figure out who the invisible person might be. She concentrated on the area she could see from her current circumstances and soon discovered that not one, but two jets of light were keeping her out of harms way.
She concentrated hard and sure enough, that door in her mind opened and she found herself listening in on Draco's thoughts.
Damn! Gotta get Father off her so we can mover her. This position is getting rather difficult to defend. Damn Weasley you getting those hexes close enough! Just because we're in invisibility cloaks doesn't mean we're invincible. Just like Weasley to be overconf i- whoa, hafta thank Weasley for that one later!
Ginny was relieved to find Draco and her brother were protecting her, but she also worried for Draco's safety. He hadn't looked very good. Presently, however, her attention was pulled back to her own rather dangerous situation when Lucius started to stir. She sent a quick, panicked thought to Draco and he quickly stunned Lucius again, then finally had enough time to get Ginny out from under him. The fight was still continuing in scattered places across the hall. Most of the Death Eaters lay stunned, as a did a few Aurors. Still, amazingly enough, it appeared everyone would live. The Aurors still standing were busy confiscating everyone's wands and binding them securely. Draco himself took care of Lucius. Then Draco came over to Ginny. But before either could say anything, Draco's eyes rolled back into his head and he slumped forward onto Ginny.
"Draco? Draco! Come on wake up!" Ginny murmured while struggling to keep him upright. Ron was suddenly beside her, having thrown off the invisibility cloak he had been wearing. He laid Draco gently on the ground and felt his pulse and checked his breathing.
"Gin. go get a Medi-witch," Ron said, still bending over Draco. Ginny ran frantically through the hall until she finally found a newly arrived Medi-witch.
"Please, my husband's been severely injured!" Ginny babbled and tugged on the Medi-witches shirt. They ran quickly over to Draco. Ron saw them coming and urged them forward.
When they reached him, Rom let the Medi-witch take over after speaking to her in a low tone for a minute.
"Come on Gin, there's nothing you can do for him right now," Ron said gently, trying to pull her away.
"I just want to stay with him until I know for sure he'll be ok," Ginny replied, trying to pull out of Ron's iron grasp.
"I know but we need to make sure you and the baby are ok first," Ron said, finally starting to convince her. "You'll just be in the way if you hover."
"Ok," Ginny finally agreed. Ron led her over to one of the makeshift stretchers they had set up as med-stations.
"I'm going to go find a Medi-witch. You lay down and rest," Ron said and rushed off.
Ginny sat for a minute, then decided she could probably go and check on Draco before Ron got back. However, just when she sat up to go and do just that, Ron returned with Hermione trailing behind him.
"Lay down Gin, and let me have a look at you." said Hermione.
"I will, I just want to check on Draco first," Ginny replied.
"I thought you'd say that so I checked on the way over," Hermione said. "I was touch-and-go for a while but give him a few months and he'll be as good as new."
Ginny was filled with intense relief and gladly laid down on the stretcher. As Hermione checked her over Ginny realized just how tired she was.
I'll just close my eyes until Hermione's done, then go and see Draco, Ginny thought as her eyes drifted shut and she dropped off to sleep.
